“Today small NGOs, tomorrow sustainable NGOs”

The project “Today small NGOs, tomorrow sustainable NGOs” aim to address the problem of lack of financial resources in Romanian NGOs. Its goal is to increase the capacity and financial sustainability of civil society by improving its communication strategies and developing fundraising and crowdfunding campaigns.

The nonprofit sector proved its impact at the local and national levels, but in order to complete its projects, it needs to have access to the specific know-how in  fundraising and support from experts. Donors have shown their trust in NGOs, but in order to reach them, organizations need effective communication and fundraising strategies. The project proposes an incubation program which will help the NGOs to grow step by step.

The project objectives are:

  • To consolidate the expertise of three Romanian specialists in the development and implementation of fundraising strategies/campaigns, in order to transmit their knowledge to 15 small NGOs – project beneficiaries.
  • To transfer the acquired know-how and increase the capacity of small NGOs to carry out effective communication and fundraising campaigns.
  • To develop tools and techniques for NGOs to implement in order to increase their financial sustainability and support the development of strategic partnerships between them.

How we intend to achieve our objectives?

The project involves a study visit to Norway, where three experts from the Civitas Foundation for Civil Society Cluj will participate in a course held by Norsensus Mediaforum, the project partner. During the study visit, Romanian specialists will improve their skills in development and implementation of fundraising strategies / campaigns. The acquired knowledge will be adapted and translated into a handbook and other materials.

All the materials will be used and disseminated at the courses and workshops organized by the Civitas Foundation and Norsensus Mediaforum. Thus, a number of 15 representatives of the beneficiary NGOs will learn how to communicate and promote themselves effectively, as well as to develop fundraising strategies and crowdfunding campaigns. After completing this activity, the organizations will be able to use the received information to increase their financial capacity by implementing 2 fundraising campaigns.

An important component is the sustainability activity. An impact assessment of the project will be carried out and strategic partnerships between the beneficiary NGOs will be encouraged.
