Establishment and Development of a Cooperative for Livestock Farmers in the Câmpia Transilvaniei LAG
Through the establishment of the livestock cooperative, the Civitas Foundation supports animal breeders and facilitates the valorization of milk produced by animals within the cooperative. Civitas provides development opportunities for livestock farmers and offers them access to experts who can assist both in identifying new production technologies and in finding innovative ways to process and market dairy products—such as aged cheese, butter, yogurt, or telemea (a traditional Romanian cheese)—which involve various processing methods of differing complexity.
One of the foundation’s major goals is the development and implementation of a business plan through which the cooperative can operate sustainably and attract non-reimbursable or partially reimbursable funding. In the meantime, the focus is on finding a suitable name and branding that reflects the shared values of the farmers. Securing a physical location where they can develop their activities is also a key priority during this stage.
Another major objective is to facilitate market access and promote the cooperative’s products within the HoReCa (Hotel, Restaurant, Catering) sector. Discussions with key stakeholders in the industry have already been initiated in this regard.
