Context and Relevance

The project is relevant as it addresses critical needs in agricultural education and the significant shortage of skilled labor force in agriculture. In Romania, young farmers and agricultural managers mostly rely on practical experience without formal training, which negatively impacts productivity. By facilitating practical training internships (SPP) and strengthening partnerships with economic agents, the project contributes to the training of well-prepared specialists who can meet the labor market demands and support the sustainable development of Romanian agriculture. This is a crucial priority for generational renewal in the agricultural sector and for adapting to current industry challenges.

The “Practice for the Future” project responds to the need to modernize agricultural education in Romania. It aims to improve students’ practical training and enhance collaboration with economic agents to develop relevant skills and meet current labor market demands.

What Are Our Goals?

We aim to transform and modernize agricultural education in two specialized high schools, with a particular focus on students’ practical training. Our main objective is to provide the 252 participating students with an educational experience that equips them with essential practical skills necessary to meet the demands of the modern agricultural sector.

By organizing practical training internships, we seek to strengthen the connection between the labor market and the education system so that young people can acquire career-relevant skills and knowledge. These internships are not limited to practical activities but also include continuous guidance from coordinators and tutors, providing constant feedback that contributes to the personal and professional development of students.

We also aim to support partnerships between agricultural high schools and economic agents in the field, creating a learning environment that reflects the reality and the trends of the labor market. In this way, we want to prepare graduates not only with solid theoretical training but also with valuable practical experience that will give them a significant competitive advantage when entering the workforce.

In the long term, our goal is to develop a skilled workforce adapted to contemporary requirements, support the modernization of agricultural education, and promote sustainability by training future specialists who will play a key role in environmental conservation and restoration in the agricultural sector. In this context, our project aligns with national employment strategies, sustainable development goals, and green job promotion, having a significant impact on both the community and the Romanian agricultural economy.

What’s Next?

In the upcoming period, the project will launch practical training internships for the 252 students from the two partner high schools, “Alexandru Borza” Agricultural High School in Geoagiu and “Traian Săvulescu” Agricultural College in Târgu Mureș. Students will receive support to participate in these internships, while training activities will be organized and coordinated in parallel. There will be 24 informational sessions for students and parents, as well as 6 certification exams. The project will also include 6 annual events aimed at creating an information system and 60 planning sessions for practical training internships.

Results:

By the end of the project, it is expected that 252 students will benefit from practical training internships, and at least 228 students will obtain a formal qualification. Additionally, 6 roundtable events will be organized with economic agents to identify internship partners and to strengthen the relationship between the two agricultural high schools and the economic agents in their respective areas.
