INPCAT – Integrated plant protection as an answer for climate change

About the project

The project focuses on the plant health of vegetable and fruit production as this sector is affected by hindered information flow and climate change. In the last decade the knowledge and innovation transfer became essential for farmers to make decisions as quickly as possible, to avoid financial losses, to access markets, to prevent plantations and livestock, and to mitigate risks of climate change. The general objective of the project is to generate answers for the latest and one of the most crucial questions of farmers which determine their cost structure, the accessible profit and food safety. Project will also contribute to developing the knowledge of the target group on environmentally friendly plant protection methods to reduce the use of pesticides.

For whom?

The main target group of the project includes professionals in agriculture, consultants, and experts in plant protection, as well as Vocational Education and Training (VET) trainers, teachers, and facilitators. The secondary target group consists of farmers, gardeners, VET students, workers in the sector, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in agriculture, farmers cultivating medicinal plants, and amateur gardeners.

Project Results

In order to carry out their activities, farmers need access to up-to-date information that is efficiently transmitted. Knowledge is essential in their work, as some risks, such as pests or the lack of plant protection if not managed correctly, can cause significant costs and losses for farmers and jeopardize food safety. In response to this need, the project partners will develop new training materials to facilitate organic production in the sector:

• New and innovative training materials to assist in the implementation of plant protection tools within EU actions on climate change. These will enable target groups to have continuous access to the necessary information for their educational and economic activities.
• A new international platform that will support knowledge transfer among international experts, keeping them informed about the latest risks and prevention methods regarding plant protection, considering EU strategies for sustainable agriculture.
• Training materials that will include updated information, visual content incorporating best practices collected from partner countries to contribute to the implementation of the EU strategy “From Farm to Fork.”
• Tool for farmers, facilitators, and trainers to timely and accurately identify diseases and symptoms; the material will be digitized.
