In the face of challenges and changes in the contemporary agricultural landscape, subsistence farmers face increasing difficulties. Many local farmers do not have access to the necessary knowledge to develop their business sustainably and need more support to continue their activity.
With the support of Provident Financial Romania IFN, we developed a project to increase the capacity of subsistence farmers from all agricultural branches, from Cluj and Harghita counties. At the end of it, we expect at least 60 farmers in this region to become more competent entrepreneurs, understand the market better and be able to react with adjusted plans for food production, food processing and marketing.
Here is what we set out to do through this program:
The professionalization of smallholder farmers is essential for farms to become sustainable, to be able to provide fresh and quality local food in an economically efficient manner. Through this program, we want to create contexts for learning and exchange of experience to support farmers to adapt to current challenges and access new markets for their products.
Through the training sessions, we will be able to identify new producers and help them capitalize on their products through the Nod Verde foodhub network and/or through the CoopNet network of agricultural cooperatives. We will also establish some associative forms to develop projects together (short chains, joint investments and others).
